A couple of years ago, Dan and I took a trip to New York and ate at this awesome sandwich place that featured this turkey, cheddar, and apple sandwich.  It sounded fabulous and tasted delicious.

I never found another sandwich like that.  But I’ve been on the look out.  So when I received coupons for Sargento’s Ultra Thin cheeses, I purused the recipe section and found this turkey, cheddar, and apple sandwich.  Finally, I found something that sounded like that sandwich.

While certain people in my family don’t like to mix fruit and meat, I’m cool with it.  This sandwich was deliciously different than my usual ham and cheese or turkey and cheese.  And I like how the ultra thin slices melted nicely rather than get all goopy.  No one likes goopy cheese.

I’m a cheddar fan, and I love the full cheddar flavor without the extra bulk these ultra thins offer.  These slices are deliciously dainty.

What do you think?  Do you mix fruit and meat?  Would you go for apples (or maybe pears) on your sandwich?

This recipe is so similar to one of my favorite sandwich recipes shared with me by a friend years ago: http://www.viciousdishes.com/2009/08/turkey-apple-cheddar-open-faced.html (The recipe is still there, but the photo link is busted for some reason) Larry and I love this sandwich (I am a fan of the fruit/meat combo – also delicious: apricot jam on pork chops!) and it is so easy to make!

I was part of that trip! We went to ‘wichcraft at Bryant Park – so good!! (Topping it off with a cupcake from Crumbs really made the whole meal). :-)

I just saw an ad for these thin cheese slices – yum! I don’t normally think of adding fruit to sandwiches, but it’s a great idea.
