I love the idea of smoothies because they can be healthy, easy, and filling. So I started experimenting with a couple different types of smoothies, with some hits and some…yucks.
When I was at BlogHer’12, I met Catherine McCord from Weelicious, so when I got back home, I starting pouring through her website for some new recipe ideas.
The minute I saw this avocado banana smoothie recipe, I grabbed my flip flops and headed out the door to pick up avocados and bananas.
As soon as I got back from the grocery, I got going on this smoothie. All you need for about 8 cups of smoothie are: two avocados; three bananans; 2 cups milk; small handful of ice.
Kate insisted she help, so I let her toss in the bananas and avocados and help me pour in the milk. We pressed chop and let the blender whip up our smoothie.
This shake should be thick. To test the thickness, dip a spoon in the shake and if the smoothie coats the spoon, it’s perfect. If the smoothie runs off, add more banana to thicken it up. Tip: only add a little bit of ice to start. You can always add more if you find the smoothie too thick. If it’s too thin, you will have to work it more.
Clearly, we had to taste our smoothie right away. When I think of avocado, I think of savory dishes, so I wasn’t sure what I’d think about avocado in a sweet recipe. The taste is different – not super sweet – but it’s creamy and delicious.
Oh yes, be sure to offer some smoothie to your baby.
And don’t forget your mama.
