I bought Kate a fushia tutu from Target last year as a last minute Halloween costume. Rather than spending money on a costume she would wear once, I figured this tutu would become a dress up item for the rest of the year.
Kate ended up wearing the tutu to my local mom’s group’s Halloween Party, and at the 11th hour, I got a hand-me-down butterfly costume for her to wear for the day of Halloween.
This year I knew I couldn’t squeeze her back into last year’s hand-me-down costume. And that tutu I bought last year has seen a lot of wear. As evidenced in Kate insisting on riding her bike while wearing that tutu. She even sleeps in that tutu.
It was also getting a little snug. So I promised her that when the brand new, sparkling Target opened down the street from us, we’d go get her another tutu.
Well, that Target just opened last week. And Kate and I spent a nice hour there, trolling the empty aisles and feasting on a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte (me) and a bag of popcorn (Kate) from the sweet food court.
After wandering through the grocery section, make up, and office supplies, we ended up in the little girl’s clothes where Kate picked out a new tutu.
She wore it right out of the store, and she’s worn it everyday since. Kate spends a good portion of her days flouncing around her her tutu (or, as she calls it, “my princess dress”) while roaring because her favorite game is pretending she’s a “BABY T-REX!”
So I suppose this year’s Halloween theme is Princess T-Rex.
