Last year I decided to make goals or intentions on a monthly basis.  Mostly because I had trouble coming up with something I wanted to work on all year long.

This ended up being the best way for me to actually accomplish things I set out to do.  When I made goals for the year, I found that some goals didn’t interest me or no longer applied to my life just a couple months into the new year.

But monthly goals and intentions let me reset where I’m going every thirty days.  If certain goals continue to interest me, I can retool them and continue to work on them the next month.  If other goals just aren’t doing it for me, then I can scratch them and move on.

Most of all, I want my monthly goals and intentions to be things I want to do because I think they will bring more happiness to my life.  And because I think they will be fun.  Not because I am trying to hack my life or create a perfect home/family/etc.

I plan to check in a couple times a month with how I’m doing and what’s been a meaningful goal and what I’ve tossed out.  Are you taking on monthly goals or working on a couple things all year long?

It’s funny that you chose this wording right now, because last night – literally – I was thinking ‘I have to tell Sarah about the Jess Lively blog (http://jesslively.com/) on Living With Intention.’ Maybe you’re already reading it, but if not, I think you’d enjoy it. She was recommended to me by Kim at Yellow Brick Home (Also an awesome blog, but more decor related). Anyway, Happy New Year, and I’m joining you in tackling monthly intentions/goals instead of making sweeping year-long resolutions.

I did monthly intentions last year as well and it really helped keep me focused on the moment and not always quite so far in the future! I have a theme for the year (thank you Stratejoy Holiday Council!) and my goals will fit in with that – for January my goal is “create!”
