Paula’s Choice Saved My Skin

I’ve been battling acne since college.  I think the stress and anxiety I was under at school sent me into a hormonal tizzy, resulting in painful acne exploding all over my chin and cheeks.

After college it calmed briefly.  Then flared again.  And it’s gone from good to worse to good to worse between my pregnancies.  I tried the oil cleansing method when I was pregnant with Michael, and it worked pretty good.  And it was okay for some months post partum.

But the past several months?

Bad.  Bad news acne.  All over my chin and up towards my cheeks.  And my forehead.

I’m assuming it’s stress.  (Stress also makes me break out in hives, apparently!)  A combination of hormones and stress?  I don’t know.

So the week before I turned 30, I decided enough was enough.  I went on the Paula’s Choice website and ordered a couple products.  I thought about just going to the drugstore, but I haven’t had that much luck with drugstore stuff in the past.  Plus, I’ve tried Paula’s Choice stuff before and was happy with it.  And my friend Ashley, a fellow oily-skinned, acne-probe friend, swears by Paula’s Choice, and every single recommendation from Ashely has worked for me.  So I ordered a handful of things and hoped for the best.

I ordered the following:

Clear Extra Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution With 2% Salicylic Acid

Clear Extra Strength Daily Skin Clearing Treatment with 5% Benzoyl Peroxide

Skin Balancing Oil-Reducing Cleanser

Skin Balancing Invisible Finish Moisture Gel

When my package arrived, I couldn’t wait to get started trying this stuff out.  I washed my face with the cleanser, followed up with the anti-redness exfoliating solution, patted on the moisture gel, and finished off with the skin clearing treatment on my acne.

I wasn’t sure when to expect results.

This stuff cleared me up in a matter of HOURS.  It was a gosh darn MIRACLE.  I could feel this stuff pulling the oil out of my face.  The mean, red angry acne disappeared in a matter of hours.  This stuff cleared up my skin like I could not believe.  This cluster of acne along my jaw line that had persisted for weeks and weeks finally, finally, not just got better but completely disappeared.

Acne makes me super self conscious.  I mean, COME ON!  I’m 30 YEARS OLD!  Go, away, acne!  So I was beyond relieved when this stuff cleared me up in a hot minute.  Praise!

Since this worked so well, I’m interested in a couple other things.  Now that I’ve got acne under control, I’d like to treat some acne scarring.  Oh, and wrinkles.  Because I’ve got wrinkles and acne at the same time!  Ha!  Silly 30s!

I love Paula’s Choice. I used it waaaaaay back in the day – when Cosmetic Cop was her big thing and she decided to create her own line. And then, just started using it again a month or so ago. It is the first time in four years that I haven’t been pregnant OR breastfeeding – and at 36, I wanted to try something with an anti-aging line. Plus, I have dull skin that really needs a lift! I am using: The Skin Balancing Cleanser, the Resist Daily Pore-Refining Treatment 2% BHA, Resist Ultra-Light Serum + c15 Super Booster. Everything works great so far – just waiting to see the overall results in a few more weeks.

Oh – and using sunscreen by Cerave and RoC Retinol Eye cream.

I should mention that you should definitely try the c15 Vitamin C super booster (order a sample, you know how great she is with those) b/c it is apparently LIFE CHANGING for superficial scarring due to acne, brown spots, etc. Plus, it fights free radicals. It is a MUCH MUCH cheaper version of the Skinceuticals CE Serum (which is like $145) Read the reviews on it.

    • I was wondering about that C15 super booster! Thanks for letting me know! I think I will order it. I’ve got lots of scarring. 🙁

I’ve been hearing so much about PC! Good things! I may need to try this out for myself, I’ve had similar skin issues!

  • Oh man, I hear you! I’m 24 and have struggled with acne (and “bacne”) since 6th or 7th grade. The problem is, I have the worst combination skin. So dry my skin flakes off (ew), but also so oily it’s like zit city (ew). Proactiv worked for quite awhile but it seems like it’s drying me out too much now. I just ordered stuff from Lush, so I’m hoping that will work. I’d never heard of Paula’s Choice!

    • Ha! Yes, I can relate! You’ll have to do a post on the Lush stuff and let us know how it works. I’m loving the Paula’s Choice stuff. So far, so good!

Sarah – thank you so much! I read this post and decided that I might give it a try. That stuff is AMAZING! It’s like I have new skin! Thank you so much for your recommendation!

    • Oh, I’m SO glad! Ugh, isn’t acne the worst?! Good riddance!
