Big (or small) goals | What’s on tap for next year? Share your big (or small) goals with us. Why did you pick those goals? Are these things you’ve always wanted to do? How are you going to get them done?

LM-super-mega-7

I’m a believer that you can have a fresh start whenever you want. Doesn’t matter if it’s January 1 or Monday or the beginning of a new month. But there’s a certain allure to January 1, no?

Okay, so goals. I haven’t had enough time and space to think about what I want to accomplish in 2015. This is frustrating because I like to have a plan. But, I’m using a common phrase around the Bagley house – lean in – to deal with not having a plan. Around here, we lean in a lot. Lean into tantrums. Lean into children crying for no reason. Lean into doing whatever we need to do even if we don’t want to do it. Lean into going with the flow of life with young children. Lean into surprises. Lean into things not going as planned.

I’m leaning into not setting up goals at this moment in time. Instead I’ll lean in and adjust as I go.

Creativity | What does being creative mean to you? How do you express your creativity?

monday-oct-27-2014.8

I used to think that being creative was confined to those people who could draw or paint. Or otherwise create with their hands. Not me. Since my box of failed knitting projects and unused colored pencils show my lack of abilities.

But maybe being creative is more than that. I think being creative is also like being resourceful. I’m a “creative” parent. When you spend many hours a day with small people, you’ve got to come up with creative ways to pass the time or make it through the check out line at the grocery.

I think being creative means being open minded. Thinking about how unlikely things could connect. Realizing and understanding other people’s points of view. Asking people why they think that.

I’m creative in my fitness life, trying out different coaching techniques to see which ones work and which ones flop.

I think I host a pretty creative podcast. Or rather, my guests are pretty creative.

What do you think? What’s creative to you?

Creature of Habit | Did you form a new habit this year? Or continue with an old one? Is it a good habit? Or one you’d like to break?

friday-oct-31-2014.4

I’m the best at habits! I love a good habit. Fitness is probably my strongest habit. Next to drinking endless cups of tea and trolling Target and CVS for new beauty products. And shopping at Athleta.

One habit I did not curate – and I’d like to curate – is a habit of daily gratitude and mindfullness. I’m thinking, something like a gratitude journal? And a new yoga practice? Anyone have any advice? What works for you?

Energy | What gave you energy this year? What took away your energy?

weekend-2014.1

Fitness! Fitness! Fitness!

I’ve loved fitness for longer than I’ve loved anything. I’ve always been active. And I’ve always loved a good sweat. Today someone in my class said: “You’re the best teacher at this gym!” And my heart burst open. I love fitness for the energy it gives me – and I love even more to pass on that energy.

These little people. For their endless energy and spunk and love. My life would be empty without them.

Home | Tell us about what home meant to you this year. Are you a homebody? Did you do a renovation? Move? Redecorate?

Home meant everything to us this year. Living like nomads for nine months was one of the most challenging things we’ve done as a family. But now all our stuff and everyone is in one place. And it’s the best feeling there is.

I never thought I’d… | What did you think you’d NEVER do. But you did this year. Why? What changed your mind?

monday-oct-27-2014.7

I never thought I’d let my kids play with the toys at the pediatrician’s office. Or roll on the floor of the pediatrician’s office. Nor would I just keep pushing my red cart like nothing is happening while my toddler screams for MORE DONUT. I never thought I’d be able to spring into action when Michael busts his tongue and blood gushes everywhere. Nor did I think I’d be able to handle two ER visits within two weeks. Or dealing with a toddler with a broken leg. Or a preschooler after a surgery. Or building a house.

But I’ve done each and every one of those things. And now I never say never.

Thank You Note | Write a thank-you note to someone who broke your heart, or made your life harder than it needed to be. Bonus points for sharing it here.

tuesday-oct-29-2014.9

It’s been a tough year for many reasons. But not because of the people in my life. Rather without the love and support of my friends and family, the year would have been much more difficult. So, instead, a thank you to my tribe. For your tireless love and support. Even when we disagreed or grew tired of each other. Thanks.
