Prompt for Day 27:
Gifts. Sometimes we get gifts that we don’t want or need. Are you honest with the person who gave it to you? Or do your gift givers follow a tried-and-true wish list? If you’re returning a gift this season, what is it and why?
I always get what I want. Because I ask for it.
I’ve learned that wanting other people to be mind readers is a set up for failure. Instead, I ask for what I want.
Since very early on in our relationship, I’ve been specific with Dan about what I want. Very, very specific. Throughout the year I send him emails with links to various things. I including the size, the color. And always a helpful and searchable subject line. “Sarah gift ideas birthday/Christmas.” I even send coupon codes.
I guess some might say that that’s not romantic. Or it kills the fun. Well. Not for me. For me, I find it most fun when people around me aren’t stressing over gifts. And I find it fun when I get what I want. I love a good win-win situation. And picking out my own gifts and relieving the stress of the gift giver?
That’s a win-win.
