I needed a few things from the drugstore, and I’m sharing what I picked up with you! I needed new concealer, and while I was there, I picked up a few more things to try!

Here’s what I picked up:

+Physician’s Formula RX concealer in the color fair light

+L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow concealer

+L’Oreal TrueMatch powder

+Maybelline Master Chrome by FaceStudio Highlighter

+L’Oreal Color Riche Matte Lipliner

+L’Oreal Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick

+L’Oreal Paints Metallic Paints Lipstick

+Revlon Skinny Eyeliner

Have you tried any of these products? What do you recommend?

My New Favorite BB Cream

June 14th, 2017 Posted by Style 2 thoughts on “My New Favorite BB Cream”

I used to be really into foundation. I would not leave the house – even just for a quick errand – without a heavy coating of foundation all over my face. I suffered (and I still suffer) from acne (specifically, cystic acne, a.ka. THE WORST KIND there is, and, at least on me, virtually untreatable. Fun!), so I wanted my face completely covered.

At some point I grew tired of purchasing bottle after bottle of foundation, find that the ones I was using were discontinued or the formula changed. And, really, I just didn’t like that thick, cakey foundation feeling on my skin. My cystic acne was somewhat under control and the leftover scars weren’t terrible. And, I became a mom of three with approximately 2.5 minutes to tend to myself a day. So I stopped using foundation.

I like my natural skin to be seen, even if it’s not the prettiest. I have discoloration, scarring, dark circles, and the random cystic acne breakout. At that time, I discovered the Ponds BB Cream that every YouTuber and their mother was talking about a few years back. I loved that stuff. And then, as happens with products, it was discontinued (at least I believe it was discontinued…I can’t find it any more!).

For a while, after I used up my last remaining bottle of the Ponds BB Cream, I just used concealer to cover up discoloration and dark circles, and that worked pretty well. Then, one fateful day as I was trolling Target, I came across CoverGirl’s new Clean Matte BB Cream.

CoverGirl, you had me at MATTE! In addition to not having the prettiest skin, I’m also oily as the day is long! (Are you horrified by my face yet?!)

I picked the color FAIR, and I’ve been using it daily for almost a year. I love it. The coverage is definitely light. It is buildable, but you’re not going to get full coverage. If you prefer a flawless face, this won’t be your favorite. But if you want just a little coverage and your skin toned evened out, this is for you!

I apply it but squeezing (Also, a squeeze tube! YES!) a small amount onto the back of my hand. With a dampened Beauty Blender, I pick up a little bit of product and dab it into my skin.

I love how I don’t feel anything on my face. The wear time is okay; I don’t use a primer, so the wear time might improve with a primer. But when it does wear off, it wears off pretty evenly. It’s enough to get me through the day, which, for me, is about 4 p.m. before I shut down. 😉

Do you like BB Creams? Which ones? Are you a full coverage or light coverage person?

What’s In My Bag

What's in my bag

Some people are shoe people. Some people are diamond people. I’m most definitely a bag person.

I’ve always loved bags. Mostly big bags. I tend to carry around a lot of stuff, so having a good, big bag is important to me.

Here’s my video on what sort of bags I use and what I keep in my bags.

I mention a purse organizer. I use the KLOUD City purse organizer. If you use it, do you like it? What do you always carry in your bag? Do you love bags as much as I do?!

What’s New at the Drugstore / January 2016

January 14th, 2016 Posted by Style, Uncategorized 0 thoughts on “What’s New at the Drugstore / January 2016”

new-at-the-drugstore-jan-2016

While I don’t wear a lot of makeup (and most days none at all!), I still really enjoy it. Especially drugstore makeup because it’s the most affordable (duh) and easiest to acquire (there are drugstores on every corner in my town).

So, I love combing the drugstore for new things, especially neutral makeup, to find that diamond in the rough item that only costs $4, and I can apply easily and look like $1 million bucks. (Okay, so that’s asking a lot. But I have found many, many inexpensive things that take this tired, haggard looking face up a few notches.)

Here are a few things I found lately (and a mini review).

+CoverGirl trunaked pallets in Golden and Rose.

I also picked up the Nude but when I compared to my Urban Decay Naked 2 pallet (one of only two high end pallets I own), I really saw a one-for-one shade match. So I returned it. But, if you’re interested in the Naked2, definitely go pick up the Nude pallet. So, therefore, the Golden and Rose pallets are just like the Naked1 and Naked3 pallets, in terms of shade matches. While Urban Decay shadows most likely wear best, these from CoverGirl are really a good option considering they are $10 each and the Urban Decay pallets are $50 each. I’ve played around with them a little, and I’m happy with the pigmentation.

+CoverGirl Oh Sugar! lip balm in Soda, Spice, and Punch.

I believe these are supposed to be comparable to the Fresh Sugar Lip Treaments, which are approximately $1 billion dollars each. Ha! No, they aren’t that expensive. But they aren’t cheap. I’ve only experienced Fresh Sugar in the little trial size version I received for my Sephora birthday gift (Sign up to be a Beauty Insider and you get a free gift on your birthday. It’s usually pretty good, albeit something trial sized.). These CoverGirl lip balms smell very similar to the Fresh Sugar (lemony), and they do feel nice and give just a tint of color, which is what I like.

+Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow Crayon

I was SO excited when I found these that I almost knocked the display over. I already love the Maybelline Color Tattoos in the pots, but I was finding that they can dry out (in all fairness, I have had them a while). Anyway, I knew I liked the pots, so I figured I’d love the crayons. I had to restrain myself, so I only picked up three colors. But I’ve been wearing them almost every day, and I love how they look! The color is buildable, meaning, I can just put on a little bit for a little wash of color or I could really build it up and get glamorous! HA! For what?! The carpool line?! But, really, I could. If I ever got glamorous. Anyway! Definitely, run, do not walk, to get these. You will be glad you did. Eyeshadow in a snap! Just rub a little on your eye, blend it out with your fingers, and done. Girl, you look good!

+L’Oreal Color Riche Mono Eyeshadows in Paris Beach, Little Beige Dress, Sunset Seine, and Quartz Fume

I depend on YouTube for many of my recommendations, and Tati of GlamLifeGuru is amazing for this. She tries EVERYTHING. And I mean, everything. So when she came out with several videos on new drugstore products and raved about these single eyeshadows, you bet I went on the hunt. Tati is totally glam, so she can do all the colors. There’s this blue one that will look amazing on her, but if I tried it, I’m pretty sure people would think I was auditioning for Barnum and Bailey. Anyway, I picked up four (buy one, get one half off!) in neutral colors. These are good! Again, for those of you looking for a neutral, wearable look, I’ve got you covered. Just swipe even one of these colors on your lid, curl those lashes, little bit of mascara, and boom, you’re done!

Have you tried any of these? Or anything else new (or old!) from the drugstore? Do share!

Lipstick for People Afraid of Lipstick // Almay Butter Kiss

March 26th, 2015 Posted by Style, Uncategorized 0 thoughts on “Lipstick for People Afraid of Lipstick // Almay Butter Kiss”

almay-lipstick

Are you afraid of lipstick? Do you want to try out one of those cutely-packaged tubes but are worried you’ll pick the wrong color and end up looking like a clown…or worse?

I love lipstick. And I’ll try almost anything. I’m like a moth to the flame when I happen upon a new display of shiny lipstick tubes.

But I get the fear. And I get not wanting to waste your money on something that looks wrong. And I get wanting an easy lipcolor.

I’ve found a solution! Almay Butter Kiss.

I usually walk right on by Almay. I think I own one Almay item. It’s just never a brand that seemed all that interesting to me. I saw the display of new lipsticks, and I thought, eh, could be interesting. But since I don’t own much from the brand, I didn’t know if they would be a hit or a terrible miss.

So when two of my favorite YouTube beauty gurus (EmilyNoel83 and MakeupTIA) both commented on loving these lipbutters, I thought, okay, they’ve never steered me wrong in the  past, so I’ll try them.

I picked up three out of the four for  my shade range (I went with light-medium skintone). Tried them the next day. Fell in love. And went back for the remaining shade.

Here’s what I love about these: if you’re unsure what looks good on you, no worries. These are separated out into skin tone, so simply pick one (or all!) from the berry, pink, red, and neutral color family that corresponds with your skin tone. Sure, you can pick a shade from the other skin tones, if there’s one that interests you. But, if you just want to be pretty sure it will look good on you, select from your skin tone, and you’re good to go.

These formula is easy to apply and glides on smooth. And it’s forgiving. I’ve applied these without a mirror. They don’t have the best staying power. But, if you’re looking for an effortless (and inexpensive) way to take your quick make up routine up a notch, go for these.

I’m not the fanciest when it comes to makeup. I like it to be fresh, natural, and, well, I guess B+ effort. These lipsticks from Almay fit the bill!

Have you tried these? What do you think?

The Silkiest Hair Ever

Dove-Pure-Dry-Oil-1

I could sum up this entire post with two words:

SO SOFT!

Or maybe three words:

SO INCREDIBLY SOFT!

You know those hair commercials where the models is whipping around her long, lovely locks that look like ribbons of silk?

Yeah.  My hair has never looked like that.

UNTIL NOW!

Yes.  I have model hair.  SO SOFT model hair.

Dove-Pure-Dry-Oil-2

I’m super into hair.  I cannot stand a bad hair day.  I’m forever trying to achieve that model hair.  But I don’t want to spend all my monies on hair care.  Nor do I want to spend more than a few minutes dealing with my hair (Also, I have two children under the age of 4, so, let’s be real.  No one gives me more than a few minutes to do my hair.).

So when Dove gave me the opportunity to try out it’s Pure Care Dry Oil line, I was all, gimme some of that!  Because I LOVE myself dry oil.  I’ve tried almost every single dry oil formula available at the drug store with mixed results, so I was eager to give these Dove products a try.

First off, love the packaging.  That oil is in a glass bottle!  I’m so fancy!  And the smell of this stuff is….ahhhhh….intoxicating.  I’m all about that macadamia oil scent.  It’s clean and fresh yet sultry.  Which is exactly how I like to smell.  You think, oh, look at Sarah, she’s squeaky clean with her model hair, but, oh, what’s that?  She also smells a little sultry!

Dove-Pure-Dry-Oil-3

Okay, so that’s all well and good.  I smell nice.  But let’s hear more about the performance!

I’ve been using the shampoo, conditioner, and dry oil for several weeks now, and I’m amazed.  It’s made my hair silkier and shiner than any shampoo I’ve used in recent history.  I love how the shampoo makes my hair feel clean without stripping it.  And the conditioner leaves just the right amount of weight in my hair after I rinse.

The best thing about this shampoo and conditioner is, it’s prolonged the life of my recent hair cut.  Usually, by now, I’d need another trim.  But these products condition my hair so well that I’ve been able to hold off getting another cut.  And, get this, after I started using this shampoo and conditioner, I’ve received numerous compliments on my hair and everyone asking me: wow, you’re hair looks so good, did you just get it cut?

Nope!  It’s just wash and wear!

And the dry oil?  My new most favorite thing!

First off, it’s in a pump.  And you know that I love me products with a pump.  That makes application much easier.  I’ve been pumping about four to five pumps into the palms of my hands, rubbing my hands together, and applying the product mostly on the ends of my locks.

I styled my hair as I normally do (blow dryer and straightening iron), and my hair is crazy silky smooth.

Since I heat style my hair every day (and wash it everyday), I need hair care products that aren’t going to damage or dry out my hair.  And these products are winners.  For sure.  Especially now that winter is coming and the dry air always tends to make my hair wacky (Hello, static cling!), I need all the conditioning I can get!

Dove-Pure-Dry-Oil-4

Recently I’ve been styling my hair super sleek like my BFF Taylor Swift.  You know that sleek bob she’s rocking in her Shake It Off video?  Yeah, my hair looks just as sleek and shiny as Taylor’s when I wash and condition with my Dove shampoo and conditioner, follow up with my dry oil, blow dry, and quickly smooth out my hair with my flat iron.  And that’s it!  That’s the only thing I do!

If you’re hair could use some love, I encourage you to give this new line a try.  Dove Hair is daring women everywhere to try Dove Pure Care Dry Oil, risk-free now through December 31, 2014.  If you are not completely satisfied with the Dove Advanced Hair Series Pure Care Dry Oil system, Dove will refund your purchase (from 9/21 – 12/31). Visit hairmoneyback.com for details.

I’m super pleased with these Dove products.  And I’m super pleased with my shiny model hair.  Thank you, Dove!

Sweatpants for Your Feet

A couple of weekends ago I was cruising around DSW with my mom in search of tall boots.  I can’t ever find tall boots that work for me because of my…athletic calves.  Or super-sizes calves.  Anyone else have this problem?!

Anyway, I had a $5 off birthday coupon burning a hole in my pocket that I wanted to spend on the boots.  I found the boots.  But I decided to take a look at the clearance section just for kicks (see what I did there?).

I passed up a couple pairs of slip ons because they looked like they would cause blisters after about 90 seconds of wear.

But then I froze in my tracks when I ran across this lovely, feather gray pair of slip ons.

I pulled them out and immediately fell in love with how light weight they felt.  And that beautiful gray color I love so much.  I slipped them on and my feet went ahhhhhhh.

I’ve been wearing these shoes non-stop for almost two weeks.  These shoes are the sweatpants for your feet.  They feel like slippers.  And, when I’m hanging out on the playground with the kids, I don’t get those darn pebbles in my shoes.

These shoes are the Skechers Go Walk 2 and come in so many lovely colors I NEED THEM ALL!  How awesome is that navy pair?!  WANT!

Paula’s Choice Saved My Skin

September 10th, 2014 Posted by Style, Uncategorized 0 thoughts on “Paula’s Choice Saved My Skin”

paula's-choice-

I’ve been battling acne since college.  I think the stress and anxiety I was under at school sent me into a hormonal tizzy, resulting in painful acne exploding all over my chin and cheeks.

After college it calmed briefly.  Then flared again.  And it’s gone from good to worse to good to worse between my pregnancies.  I tried the oil cleansing method when I was pregnant with Michael, and it worked pretty good.  And it was okay for some months post partum.

But the past several months?

Bad.  Bad news acne.  All over my chin and up towards my cheeks.  And my forehead.

I’m assuming it’s stress.  (Stress also makes me break out in hives, apparently!)  A combination of hormones and stress?  I don’t know.

So the week before I turned 30, I decided enough was enough.  I went on the Paula’s Choice website and ordered a couple products.  I thought about just going to the drugstore, but I haven’t had that much luck with drugstore stuff in the past.  Plus, I’ve tried Paula’s Choice stuff before and was happy with it.  And my friend Ashley, a fellow oily-skinned, acne-probe friend, swears by Paula’s Choice, and every single recommendation from Ashely has worked for me.  So I ordered a handful of things and hoped for the best.

I ordered the following:

Clear Extra Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution With 2% Salicylic Acid

Clear Extra Strength Daily Skin Clearing Treatment with 5% Benzoyl Peroxide

Skin Balancing Oil-Reducing Cleanser

Skin Balancing Invisible Finish Moisture Gel

When my package arrived, I couldn’t wait to get started trying this stuff out.  I washed my face with the cleanser, followed up with the anti-redness exfoliating solution, patted on the moisture gel, and finished off with the skin clearing treatment on my acne.

I wasn’t sure when to expect results.

But I was BLOWN AWAY.

This stuff cleared me up in a matter of HOURS.  It was a gosh darn MIRACLE.  I could feel this stuff pulling the oil out of my face.  The mean, red angry acne disappeared in a matter of hours.  This stuff cleared up my skin like I could not believe.  This cluster of acne along my jaw line that had persisted for weeks and weeks finally, finally, not just got better but completely disappeared.

Acne makes me super self conscious.  I mean, COME ON!  I’m 30 YEARS OLD!  Go, away, acne!  So I was beyond relieved when this stuff cleared me up in a hot minute.  Praise!

Since this worked so well, I’m interested in a couple other things.  Now that I’ve got acne under control, I’d like to treat some acne scarring.  Oh, and wrinkles.  Because I’ve got wrinkles and acne at the same time!  Ha!  Silly 30s!
